The Labour and LibDem Leaders of Canterbury City Council are just burning their way through taxpayers’ money, losing almost £30,000 a month by resurrecting the mothballed Park and Ride bus service from Sturry Road. The re-launch in April was a flagship policy of the newly elected Council.
The main objectives of the Park and Ride scheme are
• Reducing car traffic in Canterbury FAILED)
• Burning less fossil fuel FAILED)
• Improving air quality (=FAILED)
Car Park charges have been increased across the District and are expected to raise £5 million, but a shortfall of £388,388 is estimated to pay its contract with Stagecoach for providing the Park & Ride Service for Canterbury.
This simply cannot go on and the Park & Ride from Sturry Road must stop, saving the Council almost £400,000 which can be spent on other more pressing matters. Tax payers deserve this !!
