Only one party will keep inflation down, control spending, build the future that Britain deserves — and cut your taxes.
A few simple values made Britain the country it is today.
Hard work. Opportunity. The chance for everyone to get on in life. And the means to do so.
Those are the values I believe in. And they’re the values this government stands behind.
While Covid and the war in Ukraine hit our economy hard, the economic indicators now show the same thing: Britain is turning a corner.
Inflation is down. Spending is under control. Mortgages are starting to come down. Energy prices are set to fall. Businesses are investing. And debt is set to fall.
Our long-term plan is starting to work. And that’s why we can afford to keep cutting taxes.
At the last budget, we cut National Insurance from 12% to 10% — helping the average worker on £35,000 keep £450 more a year.
This time, we’ve cut National Insurance AGAIN — from 10% to 8%.
In total, across both tax cuts, that means the average British worker keeps £900 more a year.
But there’s further to go. I’d like to end the unfairness where people in work are paying tax twice on their earnings.
We want a simpler, fairer tax system where you only pay tax once.
If we stick with our plan that’s working, we’ll be able to make progress towards that goal in the next Parliament.
We’re also helping parents with the cost of living. We’re raising the threshold for the High-Income Child Benefit Charge, from £50,000 to £60,000 – as well as halving the rate, so it’s not paid in full until you earn over £80,000.
And we’re freezing fuel duty AND alcohol duty again. All while investing billions more in our NHS.
Today’s budget is for workers, for our economy and for our future. But what happens next depends on you.
